Drama

Introduction

The Drama Department at Halliford is active with varying different events all year round that engage and enthuse students. The Department is run by Mr Roberto Bruno (Head of Drama), Mr Andy Carroll and Mr Conor Fleming (Theatre Technician). The 300+ seat theatre is the hub of the Department, and you will often find students performing on stage, working behind the scenes or in the lighting box. It is a community where everyone gets involved, and everyone is equal.

We aim to make Drama a community at Halliford, and working together we are able to achieve high standards of performance both in and out of lessons. The theatre is a safe space where students are free to explore, creatively and express themselves. Our Drama Scholars are key in helping create a positive community in the Drama Department.

Years 7 – 9

In KS3, all students have one lesson a week in the theatre. Our focus is to build confidence and empower our students with skills they can use in all walks of life. Drama is a popular subject at Halliford, and students are eager to take part in performances and showcase their skills.

KS3 lessons are split into three sections with students studying Movement, Devised work and a set text over a school year.

GCSE

At GCSE, students are encouraged to explore themselves as a performer or designer. We work hard together to develop our skills and become independent practitioners in our own right. Students will have four periods of Drama a week and will often be in the theatre at lunch and after school for extra rehearsals. We currently follow the OCR syllabus of work which entails students developing their devising skills, understanding of play texts and live theatre performances.

A Level

At A Level, Drama students work incredibly hard to create their own original performances and gain a greater understanding of the theatre as a whole.  We currently study under the OCR syllabus of work which the students find engaging and challenging.
